Apulia (from Greek Ἀπουλία, in Italian: Puglia ['puʎːa]) is a long and very fertile region on the Adriatic coast of Italy's extreme south east. White wine and table grapes are mainly produced here. Only Sicily rivals Apulia as the most productive wine region of Italy. A large part of the output, however, is used in blends, as a base for Vermouth or transformed into grape concentrate.
The best known wines are Negroamaro and Primitivo.
Primitivo di Manduria is a wine of fine quality that has a high alcohol content and a distinctive aroma. In the local dialect, the wine is called 'Mirr Test', meaning 'hard wine'.
The wine of Locorotondo, which is light and extremely limpid, is considerably different from the other Apulian wines, which often have high alcohol levels and assertive flavours. Straw yellow or greenish in color, Locorotondo wine is delicately fruity. (wine-searcher.com)
